Cricket 1904

180 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME, J une 9, 1904. his twenty-fifth year, although showing: very promising form last season, did nothing to suggest that he was capable of accomplishing so great a feat as the one he has just performed against Worcestershire. During the past few years several batsmen have succeeded in obtaining two separate hundreds in a match, but so much importance does not now attach to the feat as in previous time?, when run- getting was not so easy a matter as it has been of late. But Seymour’s performance must not be lightly regaided, for he made the scores on a ground not favourable for run- getting, and, moreover, set up a record for Kent. On no previous occasion had a player made two hundreds in a single match for Kent, but in 1900 J. R. IMason missed the feat by two runs only, making 98 and 147 against Surrey at the Oval, whilst in 1896 Frank Marchant hit x28 and 88 against Yorkshire, at Leeds : in 1874, too, “ W .G .,” appearing at Canterbury for a combined team of Kent and Gloucestershire against England, made 94 in his first innings and 121 in the second, in addition to obtaining ten wickets for 160.
