THE NORTHERN INDIA MATCH. ( n ineteenth and last of the tour ). Played at Cawnpore on February 16 and 17. Drawn. Once more the Authentics ran up a big score. The hero was K. J. Key, who had once before during the tour scored very nearly a hundred. In the Northern India match he batted at a time when the wicket was beginning to crumble, but like Simpson- Hayward, he seemed to enjoy this sort of thing. Goldie played splendid cricket in both innings for the home team, and in the second innings Beasley vastly distinguished himself. A uthentics . A.H.Hoinby, c Bailey, b Robinson ..........44 H. B. A very familiar figure in Yorkshire cricketing circles passed away at Ledstone Hall on the 5th inst. in the person of Mr. C. W. Landon. Although he had made occasional appearances for the county, he will always be chiefly remembered in connection with the Yorkshire Gentle men Club, for which he had played regu larly since 1876. He was a good all round player, and in inter-club matches met with very great success. As a bowler he was medium-paced, right-hand round arm. He was bora on May 30th, 1860, and was buried at Ledsham, March 7th, 1903. Dr. H. H. Almond, who was headmaster and proprietor of Loretto School from 1862 until his death, died at North Esk Lodge, Musselburgh, on the 7th inst., at the age of 70. He led the cricket eleven at Loretto until 50 years of age. Mr. Thomas Baker, who died at H om - castle on March 12th, age 88, was in his time a well-known cricketer. In his early days he distinguished himself as a roundarm bowler, and played against the All England Eleven for twenty-two of Lincoln, when he bowled Roger Iddison with his first ball. At Horne istle he coached many of the young players with success. Among his autograph letters from celebrities of various kinds was one from Dr. W. G. Grace. LEICESTERSHIRE COUNTY C.C M r . E. H olmes presided over the genera, meeting, held at -Leicester on Wednesday. The report congratulated the members upon the improved play of the eleven last season, while the accounts were deemed satisfactory, for although, owing to the Yorkshire match being ruined by had weather, the match receipts showing a decrease of over £800, a profit of £205 had been made. The whole of last season's players are again available, and, in addition, Mr. V. F. S. Crawford, who has recently been appointed secretary, and Gill (late of Somerset) would be included in the eleven, both players possessing birth qualifi cation for Leicestershire. The membership had grown, and the chairman expressed the hope that the present number of 1,700 would be increased to 2,000. Mr. Charles Marriott, one of the club’s oldest members, was nomi nated as the new president, and the other officers were re-elected. A special vote of thanks was accorded to Mr. T. Burdett, who has recently completed twenty years’ service as hon. secretary. Upon the conclusion of the business, Mr. F. C. Toone, the late secre tary, was presented with an address and a cheque for fifty guineas. CRICKET IN SOUTH AFRICA. THE ARMY SERVICE CORPS IN MAFEK1NG. Played on the R.A.M.C. ground on Jan. 10.
