On a wicket which was hard and dr)', but fiery, batsmen had not a very good lime. Indeed in the first innings Philadelphia could do nothing with Blythe and Bradley, the latter being almost dangerous at times. It was a very small total that Kent had to face, but things did not look well for them when they lost Burnup and Stewart for 13 runs between them. But Dillion then played a great innings and was so well backed up by Mason and Seymour that, with the tail in good form as well, the total exceeded that of Philadelphia by 114 runs. Lester, King, Morris and Clark all made a fine effort to put a better appearance on the game in the second innings, but despite their efforts Kent only had to make 54 to win. There was not quite time to do this on the second day, and 8 runs still had to be hit off when the game was resumed on the Monday. A ll P hiladelphia . Second inniDgs. First inniDgs. N. Z.
