C H E L T E N H A M v. H A IL E Y B U R Y . Played at L ord’ s on July 31 and A ugust 1. Cheltenham w on b y 49 runs. As the turf at Lord’s had not recovered from the heavy rains it was decided to play this match on the practice ground. By the end of the flrst day Hailey- bury seemed to have an excellent chance of winning, as they were 51 runs on and had taken a wicket m the Cheltenham second innings. Heymann bowled very well indeed for them. On Saturday H. C. B. Taylor, Weddell and Marsden all played finely for Cheltenham, and the result was that Haileybury had to maVe 126 to win. This did not seem a very hard task on the face of it, but the wicket had become more difficult, and as Weddell made the best use of it, Cheltenhsm gained a victory after a good fight. C heltenham . MARLBOROUGH. Played at Lord’s on July 30 and 31. Drawn. On the first day it was impossible to play, and although on the next day considerable progress was made with the game there was never very much chance that it could be brought to a conclusion. The chief feature of the play was perhaps the batting of L. G. Colbeck for Marlborough; he was seen to very great advantage in the second innings, when his companions were in difficulties. Snowdrn, who did the hat trick, bowling for Rugby, while Cozens- Hardy and Tripp tatted very well indeed. The match was played on the part of the ground reserved for practice, as the other ground was unfit for play. M arlborough . First innings. Second innings. G. R. J.
