324 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. A u g . 6 , 1903. THE ARTISTS’ CRICKET WEEK. The sixth season of the Artists’ Cricket Club closed with the week commencing July i6th. The cricketiDg artists were the guests of Mr. Edwin A. Abbey, K.A., and the matches were played on his beautiful ground at Fairford, Gloucestershire. Four matches were played ; they won two and lost two. Tbe best scores for the A.C.C. were Henry J. Ford, 56 not out, 35 and 64 not out, and 20; G. Hillyard- Swinstead, 101 not out, and 35 (he also took 35 wickets in the four matches); Arnesby Brown, 52 not out (also took 13 wickets'); L. D. Luard, 42 and 21 not out; A. H. Studd,39not out: Reg. Blomfield, 35; L. C. Night­ ingale, 27; Hon. W. J. James, 26. For the visitors the best scores were C. O. H. Sewell, 68 ; C. Gould- smith, 58; F. Cripps, 42: J. W. Jardine, 36; F. Eavis, 26; L. Hobbs, 29: A. M. Miller, 24. During this season the Artists have played eleven matches, most of them 8gainst members of kindred professions— ending all even, havirg won five, lost five, and drawn one. 1 st MATCH, v. TEAM D A Y B Y D A Y . The following announcements, official and otherwise, have appeared in the morning and evening daily pipers since the last issue of Cricket :— Thursday, July 30th. No news. Friday, July 31st. Arnold has accepted the invitation to go to Australia. Saturday, August 1st. The team is due at Adelaide on November 2nd. The tour will probably begin early in November with a match against South Australia. A visit may be made to Tasmania, Western Australia and Queensland. Monday, August 3rd. The team will not go by way of the United States, but by the Suez Canal. Tuesday, August 4th. Braund has accepted the invitation of the M.C.C., subject to the approval of the Somerset Committee.
