(Continued from page 7, January 59, 1903. THE PESHAWAR MATCH. ( eleven th of the tou r ). Played at Peshawar on January 12, 13 and 14. Authentics won by an innings and 330 runs. On a wonderfully good wicket the Authentics were batting all the first day, losing five wickets for 350 runs. Hollins played a beautiful innings and Hornby and Raphael hit freely. On the next day runs were made as quickly as possible and between a quarter past eleven and two o’clock the overnight total was nearly doubled, Simp- son-Hayward surprising everybody by his clever strokes and complete mastery over the bowling. Another run would have made his score equal to the 204 made by Captain Greig in a previous match against the Authentics. Against the big score made by the Authentics the local team as a whole could not do much, but Captain Neale and Captain Lannowe played excellent cricket in the first innings, while the former, by his remarkably good cricket in the second innings, nearly saved his side from defeat. Played at Rawal Pindi on Jan. 15 and 16. Authentics won by an innings and 205 runs. On a difficult wicket Hornby showed excellent form in making his 143, which included seventeen 4’s. Key hit very hard, making a six and nine 4’s in his 63. The wicket was crumbling a little when the Punjab went in, and in the course of an hour before stumps were drawn seven wickets fell for 25. After this there was little interest in the match. In the second innings, Powys- Keck took nine wickets for 21 and could have had the tenth to his credit if he had not been in the way of the umpire when the last man snicked a ball into the wicket-keeper’s hands. The bowlers had tfce best of the situation all through this match, for the wicket helped them considerably. The only innings oi note played by the Authentics was the 62 by K. J.
