Played at Leicester on June 29, 30 and July 1. Drawn. The Notts team was batting for the whole of the first day of this match for a total of 426, and although no single player made a hundred, there were several brilliant innings. Jones was out in the tirat over of the day, but Iremonger and W . Gunn then brought the total to 126 in an hour and forty minutes, and for the rest of the day the batsmen had the upper hand. J. Gunn played a splendid innings, and brought his total for the season to over a thousand runs. G. Gunn also did well, and Hardstaff, Oates and Taylor all helped to add considerably to the total. At the end of the innings Y. F. S. Crawford, who used a few years ago to be a really good bowler, took three wickets for 14 runs. It was an unthankful position in which Leicestershire found themselves when play began on Tuesday morning, but Wood and Whits- head made light of it, and, speedily gaining a mastery over the bowling, were still together when lunch was taken, with the total at 175. The partnership was broken just afterwards; it had lasted for a little over two hours and a half when Whitehead was caught at the wicket for a splendid innings of 104. Wood still kept on, and received valuable assistance from Knight. His innings of 101 lasted for tbree hours and a quarter. Knight and King played well, but just before the end of the day five wickets were down, Leicestershire being only 66 runs behind. Yesterday the tail collapsed, and the last five wickets only increased the total by five runs. There was no longer much interest in the match, for it was hardly likely that there would be time to finish it. N otts . First innings. A. O. Jones, c Jayes, b R.
