Cricket 1903
182 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J une 4, 1903. side, and but for his display the lead of 30 obtained by the M.C.C. on the first innings would have been considerably greater. W . G. and Trott proved the highest scorers in the second innings of the home side, each scorirg 31 ere being bowled by Fairservice. Kent were eventually set 176 to win, and, despite a fine innings of 47 by Burnup, who was again seen at his best, did not appear likely to obtain the necessary number, for when the score was 98, as many as six wickets were down. Mr. Dillon, for the second time in the match, had been dismissed from the first ball hereceived,a catch in each instance causirg his re tirement. ‘When matters were looking very unpromi sing for the county, Huish and Fairservice came together, and by steady play, added 68 for the seventh wicket, the latter being content to play a defensive game, whilst his partner hit. Hnis-h, by his innings of 56, had a very great deal to do with the success of his side, which caused the M.C.C. to experience their tiist defeat of the season. M.C.C. and G round. Second innings.
