( eig h th op the tou r .) Played at Calcutta. Drawn. In a very tad light and on a wicket which had been spoiled by rain the Authentics were dismissed for 106, of which 3G were nxade by Headlam and Kershaw for the ninth wicket. The home team could do nothing against the fast bowling of Powys-Keok, who before the close of the day took five wiekets for 9 runs out of the seven for 38 which fell. On the next morning the wicket, although it was still slow, was much easier, and after the last three Bengal wickets had realized 50 runs, Chinnery and Hornby proceeded to put up 106 for the first wicket. Afterwards Hollins played fine cricket for 62, and when the innings was declared closed Key was 24 not out, having made some beautiful strokes, quite in his old style. It may be stated that it had been decided to conclude the match at half-past one on the third day. On the second evening, after the Authentics had declared, the Presidency lost a wicket for 21, and thanks to some good play by Hignalland txuise they easily brought about a draw next morning. NINTH OF THE TOUR. Played at Calcutta. A uthentics won by an innings and 333 runs. A 8 several of the best men in the Calcutta club were unable to play ow ing to m ilitary duties or accidents, the team was far below its usual strength. In bow ling it was especially weak, and the Authentics took full advantage of this. A t the end of the first day they had made 354 fo r five wickets, H orn by and H ol lins having made big scores, w hile K ey was not out. On the next m orning, K ey played most attractive cricket, scoring at a great rate until he was within four o f his hundred. Tired out, the Calcutta team did badly. T hey lost half their wickets for 21, and thereafter they were hopelessly out o f it. W illiam s took ten4wickets for 77 in the course of the match. A dthenticb . H. B. Chinnery, lbw, G. H. The eleven representing the Gentlemen of India was much weaker than was anticipated, for at the last moment Captain Greig and Messrs. C. T. Studd, H. F. B. Champain, and M. R. Jardine had to abandon the idea of playing. The team was moreover greatly weakened by an accident in the first innings to Mr. "W. Troup, the Gloucestershire amateur, who had to retire after making 5, and could not bat in the second innings. For some reason or other no wicket had been prepared, and on the eve of the match matting was procured. The result was a bad wicket and low scores, the only outstanding innings being those of Messrs. Marsham and Hornby, the latter playing particularly well in both innings of the Authentics. G rntlembn of I ndia . First innings. Second innings. H. O.
