On the second night of the match a concert was given in their honour at the T ow n H all, follow ed by a dance. THE MATCH AGAINST WESTERN PROVINCE. ( f if t h OF THE TOUll.) Played at Cape Town on November 5 and 6. Australians won by 282 runs. The Australians won the toss anI scored 172, to which the home team replied with 84, Howell taking eight of their wickets for 31 runs. At close of play the Australians had scored 52 for four wickets. On the next day Darling made 61 and Howell 57 not out, and the total cameto 274. The Western Province, with a big task to face, could only make 80, of which Jones scored 50 in their second innings. Howell again bowled finely, his record being nine wickets for 23 runs. He took three wickets with successive balls in the course of the innings. wickets for 97 runs. When the Australians took the field rain had made the wicket diffi cult and Howell and Saunders bowled with such effect that the whole side were out early on the second day for 85. In the follow on, thanks chiefly to the earlier batsmen, they made a much better show, the pitch having improved. Smith and Shalders put on 79 for the second and Hathorn and Sinclair 80 for the sixth wicket. Sinclair, for the third time during the tour, reached his hundred. His 104 was a really brilliant display of cricket. On the second night the South Africans had lost six wickets for 216 and were then 49 on. The remaining batsmen all failed on the third morning, and the last four wickets only added nine runs. With 59 to win, Duff and Trumper knocked the runs off in half an hour, so that the Australians were left the winners by ten wickets. A u s tr a lia n s . The Australians commenced the sixth and last match of their South African programme at Cape Town on Saturday, November 8th. Kotze and Middleton, who hadtakenpartin the secfindmatch, againrepresented SouthAfrica. Jones this time found a place but, as the score will show, failed to get a run in either innings. Trumble having gone home there were only thirteen Australians to select from and Jones and Carter were the pair to stand down. Duff andTrumper madea good startfor the Australians. Hill, who came in when they were separated, was, too, in run-getting form. As it was he did not receive sufficient assist ance to enable him to get his hundred, being not out 91 when the innings closed.
