The weather in H olland seems to be no better than it has been in England, and on the first day o f this m atch there was not m uch appearance o f summer. Posthum a bow led very w ell indeed fo r H olland, and A . H . H ornby and F . H . H ollins showed excellent cricket for the M .C.C., w ho were not playing any of their ground staff. A t the end o f the first day the M .C.C., with eight w ickets in hand, were 130 runs ahead. D r. H olton m ade 86 on the next day, and the D utchm en had to m ake 335 runs in three hours and a quarter. A s they lost half their wickets fo r 54, the outlook was hopeless, but Rincker and D ubois m ade a great stand, the form er hitting^ the ball out o f the ground three times in his fine innings o f 68. NOTTS y. MIDDLESEX. PlayedatNottinghamonAugust 14,15 and 16. Middlesex won by nine wickets. There was a fairly even day’s cricket at Trent Bridge on Thursday last, M iddlesex m aking 79 for tw o w ickets against 198 by N otts. F or the hom e team, Shrewsbury, Irem onger and J. G unn all m ade between 30 and 40, but n o great stand was m ade against the bow ling o f W ells and B osaiquet J. Douglas played excellent cricket for 41 not out for M iddlesex, and his brother scored £0 not out. On the n ext m orning it seem ed fo r som e tim e that the MiddleBex total w ould not exceed that o f N otts, but M acgregor and Raw lins put on 80 runs in an hour fo r the ninth wicket, and in the end M iddlesex had a lead o f 59. This turned out to be exceedingly useful, for Bosan quet, bow ling slows, dism issed seven m en, all of w hom seemed at sea against him. Instead o f having to m ake a fairly big score in their second innings, M iddlesex were only called upon to get 35, a task they very easily accom plished. N otts . First innings. HAMPSHIRE y . WORCESTERSHIRE. Played at Portsmouth on August 14, 15 &; 16. Worcestershire won by six wickets. It w as a bowler’s day on Thursday last at Ports m outh, and the W orcestershire bowlers had the best of it. The only m an w ho was able to play a big innings was Gaukrodger for W orcestershire; he was not out 64 when stum ps were drawn, his county then having m ade 181 for eight wickets against H am p shire’s total o f 110. On the next day Gaukrodger increased his score by 12; he had been batting about tw o hours. Ham pshire had to ^o in against a oalance o f 100 runs, and although M ajor Poore and E. M .
