A fine all round display of batting enabled the Worcestershire team to score 371 for the loss of 8 wickets on the first day of this match, and thus to make themselves pretty safe from defeat, since they had not to meet Australian bowlers in their second innings. Nearly every man who batted playtd a fine gam 1*, but the best cricket of the day was shown by R. E. Foster, who, in a brilliant innings of 63, which lasted for at out an hour, showed himself to be in his very beat form. The last two wickets considerably increased the score on Tuesday. But Laucashire proved equal to the occasion, and after Ward and G. Potter had put up j45 for the first wicket, Maclaren played a splendid innings of 92, and other members of the team did well. At the end of the day Lanca shire were only 17 behind with three wickets in hand, and there was thus practically no cnance that the match would le finished. Bowley and R. E. Foster played fine cricket in thesecond innings of Worcester shire, who eventually declared. W orcestershire . First innings.
