A glance at the above table will show that the ground upon which it was easiest to score was that at the Crystal Palace, closely followed by those at Brighton, Leyton and Taunton. The Leyton ground has improved immensely (from a bats man’s point of view) during the past few seasons. In 1899 the average number of runs for every wicket lost on the ground was 19'72, which, in 1900, had increased to 28'03, and, in 1901, to 35'40. During the past season the runs were obtained on the Leyton ground as follows : — 1086 for 40 wickets 1344 for 28 wickets 1163 for 24 wickets 1098 for 24 wickets 1131 for 30 wickets 985 for 33 wickets 1241 for 26 wickets No play. 1008 for 34 wickets 1332 for 30 wickets 176 for 29 wickets Essex v.
