T h e r e were many fine efforts at the end of last week both by batsmen and bowlers, which made a vast difference to their side, but the two performances which stood out prominently were the second innings of Mr. Fry for Sussex v. Notts, and the first innings of M r. Murray Bisset for the South Africans v. D erby shire. Both batsmen scored a very large percentage of the runs while they were in, both had to play an uphill game, and both very nearly reached the score of two hundred. Mr. F ry went right through the innings, scoring 170 out of 243 from the bat, the next score being 24. T h e remarkable phases in Notts v. Sussex may be summed up as follow s:— F irst day : Sussex 256 fo r 4 w ickets ; Sussex 255 fo r 7 w ickets; Anthony takes four o f the last five w ickets for 26 ru n s; N otts 45 for 0 ; N otts 45 fo r 2 ; N otts 106 for 5. Second day : N otts 176 fo r 5 ; V ine then takes 5 wickets for 13 ru n s; Sussex leads by 84 runs ; Sussex 29 fo r 4 w ickets; F ry scores 170, not out. Third d a y : N otts w ith 331 to m ake and all their w ickets in hand, 43 fo r 0, 72 for 5, and the inevitable result. S ome good all round performances at the end of last week :— C. M cGahey, 20 and 130, not out, 5 wickets fo r 95 run s; Llewellyn, 83 and 38, 5 w ickets in second innings for 76; Sharp, 1 and 81, 7 wickets in first innings for 63: Rhodes, 41, not out, 8 w ickets fo r 53, and four for 81. F or Royal Naval College last week Mr. A. T. Tillard, a slow bowler, took all ten wickets of the Royal Engineers for 60 runs. The score of the innings was as follow s:— R o y a l E n g in eers . A .
