On the other hand Sussex, from 1814 to 1893, were defeated on nineteen occasions in successive matches played against Nottinghamshire, and of the twenty-five matches played against that county from 1881 to 1893 Sussex lost twenty-four and drew one. Sussex lost ten consecutive matches played against Kent from 1837 to 1842, and a similar number against Yorkshire from 1873 to 1882.
