This must chiefly be attributed to the fact that the weather during 1900 was not so uniformly favourable for batsmen aB in the previous year, whilst the absence of so strong a batting team as the Australians also caused a slight drop in the average runs per wicket. A glance at the above table will show that the ground upon which it was easiest to score was that at Brighton. Taunton has fallen from 35-38 in 1899 to 24*63 in 1900, and Bradford from 34'7o to 18-26. On the other hand Leyton has advanced from 19'72 to 28'03 and Hastings from 24-10 to 31'8o.
