A ug . 23, 1900. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 365 LONDON COUNTY v .W A R W IC K SH IR E . Played at the Crystal Palace on August 20, 21, and 22. Drawn. The Warwickshire batting was somewhat dis appointing on Monday, although Lilley played a great inniogs. But the best cricket of the d a / was seen when W.G. and Mr. Murdoch began the London County innings. They cannot run like hares between the wickets just now, but they can plav remark tby good cricket, and it takes a bo wit-r all his time to make any impression on them. They both played the bowling with ease on Monday evening, and when stumps were drawn, with the total at 83. were still together, W .G. with 66 and Mr Murdoch witn 47. They raised the total on Tuesday morning to 106 before they were parted, and W .G. seemed very likely to make anot her hundred. Afterwards, W .G ., j unior, who was making one of his rare appearances nowadays in first-class cricket, showed that he can still make runs, and Mr. L. Walker played good cricktt. In their second innings Warwickshire gave a fine exhibition of batting, and were able to declare, leaving London County to make 236 in a couple of hours. W a r w ic k s h ir e . First innings. NOTTS v. DERBYSH IRE . Played at Chesterfield on Aug. 20, 21 and 22. Notts won by 166 runs. It was not by any means a perfect wicket on which this match was played, and if the fielding of the Derbyshire men baa been anything like good they would have got rid of Notts very cheaply. As it was they du-posed of four of the best bats in tte team for 22 and five for 41. Then catches were misled and Mr. Goodacre, Carlin, Iremonger, and Wass made hay of the bowling f >r some time. Derbyshire began their own innings badly, but a fine s">and was made by Storer and Chatterton, who put on 85 for the third wicket by excellent cricket. But afterwards there was almost a rout, and at the end of the day seven wickets were down for 107. The remaining three only added 13 runs, and Notts went in again with a lead of 129. They did very well indeed for the wicket, although it was not until the tail began to make ameads for their previous failure that a good score seemed in prospect. Derbyshire had no possible chance of winning when they went in for the fourth innings nf the match. N o t t s . First innings. A. O. Jones, run o u t ......... .
