Cricket 1900

J uly 19, 1900. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 285 fast bowler, and had to retire peverely hnrt. Worcestershire had to bat for a little ov^r half an hour, and lost three wickets for 42, so that their position when play w^s resumed on Tuesday was bad. But splendid cricket was played, by Mr Foster and Mr. Wilke*, who made a most de'ei mined stand at a very critical time, and although the rest of the team could do very little, Yorkshire had to knock off 48 runs before drawiDg level. This did not look a v* ry difficult task, at any rate on paper, but before the runs were obtained, four good wickets were down, while half the side was out for 68. Tunnicliffe and Eaigh then made the necessary stand, and at the close of play the total had been taken to 180 without further loss, leaving Yorkshire in a very much better position. Haigh was promptly bowled yesterday morning, but Hunter offered a stubborn resistance, enabl hg Tunnicliffe {o make a splendid score -by splendid cricket. Hunter made the first 50 of his life in first-class cricket. The innii gs was declared and Worcestei sbire required 322 runs with no porsible time in whibh to get them. They begin sj badly that ihe match seemed over, but once mor 3Mr. H. K. Foster came to the rescne of his side and played a magnificent game which saved his side. Y o rksh ike . First innings.
