Cricket 1900
J u l y 12, 1900. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 263 LANCASHIRE v. SUSSEX. Played at Manchester on July 5, 6, and 7. Drawn. On a wicket which was Blow and saftMr. MacLaren E 'ayed one o f his best inniogs of the season, although is total was far short of what he has nude in pre vious matches. Bis back play was sound and careful, and his hitting determined and well-judged. There vas nothirg noticeable about the batting of the rest of the team until Sharp and Ballows came together, both cutting and driving in excellent ttyle. The wicket had apparently impr-ved when Sussex went in, but the liyht was bad, and things did not go well for ihe batsmen, of whom Killick, Marlow, and Butt alone could make any effective resistance to the bowling. Oa Friday there was no p ay, ow irg to heavy rain, and the rest of the match was p ayed under more inspiriting conditions. Mr. MacLaren entirely altered his order of g’oing-in, with the very best results, Mr. Eccles playing a very fine hard hitting innings, and »ll the other men who batted, scoring quickl/. But it w*s not possible to declare in time to get Sussex out. and although Ranjitsinhji failed, Killick and Belf practicaliy did enough to bring about a drawn game. L an cash ire . First innings.
