Cricket 1900
210 CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J u n e 21, 1900. voted that if his action was a throw, doz-ms of other bowlers threw; others said that it was no throw at all. But he had to pay the penalty of success, and when the short crusade was begun, which was to purge the gams from all suspicion of throwing, he suddenly found himself no-balled in a very decided manner, while most of the other bowlers of doubtful action still went on their way rejoicing. A great many bowlers, and for the matter of that a great many captains would have quietly waited for other umpires, but both the Sussex captain and Mr. Fry took the verdict as final, and except for an occasional over of lobs, the bowling which had been so useful was no more seen. Mr. Pry, who has worked the thing out in his mind, has, however, developed a new style, which, although it is described as “ peculiar,” cannot be described as a thtow, and in several matches he has this year met with a fair amount of success. It would be very difficult to say in what position a batsman would like to place Mr. Fry in the field if he had his choice (except perhaps as wicket-keeper), for he is not only willing but able to go anywhere, and can c»tch or stop anything within reason.
