The New South Welshmen had a very decisive win in the first of their two intercolonial matches with Queensland, played at Sydney on November 18, 20 and 21. Going in first, New South Wales scored 640. All scored well, the only batsman who failed to reach double figures being Howard. Trumper was in his very best form, and his stand with Donnan was the feature of the innings. S. P. Jones showed that he still retained a lot of his old cricket when Queensland were batting for the second time. Atkins, however, had the highest aggregate of the side for the match. The return match between these two colonies, played at Brisbane on Novem ber 25, 27 and 28, resulted in another victory for New South Wales, with an innings to spare. This time, however, there was no “ hundred ” on either side. The highest individual contribution was Parquhar’s 85 for New South Wales. In the Queensland team 0. A. Adamson replaced J. P. Clark, who was unable to play. S. P. Jones captained the home team, J. J. Kelly, New South Wales. Rain of the previous day had made the wicket soft at the start and the ball bumped a good deal, though later on it improved con^idtrably. Half the side were out for 116 and the first big stand was by Trumper and Farquhar, who added 81 for the sixth wicket. Farquhar hit very freely, and Pye and Hopkins played steadily for their runs. Against the bowling of Pye, Noble, and Howard, McDonald, Bradley, Carew, and Jones alone did much, and when the end came New South Wales had won by an innings and 86 runs. N ew S outh W ales . J. J.
