M ay 24, 1900. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 151 As R. F. Worthington and R. L. Hutch ings are the only old choices left at Ton bridge, the task of filling up the vacant places will be somewhat difficult. The out cricket in all likelihood will be the trouble, at least in view of the experiences of 1899. MAY. 26. Tonbridge, v. Emmanuel, Cambridge 31. Tonbridge, v. The Town JUNE. . Blackheath . Coxhead for the very interesting summary which follows of the matches played by Surrey under the captaincy of Mr. K . J. Key.] In the six years of Mr. Key’s captaincy, from 1894 to 1899, Surrey played 170 matches, two others (in 1899) being abandoned through stress of weather. Of these 170 matches she won exactly 100, lost 30, drew 39 (15, or nearly half, in 1899), and made a tie of one. She won at least half the matches played with all other counties, excepting Yorkshire and Mid dlesex, and with these won more than half of those which were finished. She suffered no defeat at the hands of Derbyshire or Notting hamshire, and one only from three others, while Somersetshire and Middlesex alone were victorious four times in the twelve matches played by each. Of other opponents, England won the only match played, the Austra lians won two out of four, one being drawn, and the Philadelphians and South Africans each lost their one match. In the matches with Cambridge University, Surrey won five and drew one, while with Oxford the balance is in her favour. Oxford University and Somersetshire were the only opponents to whom Surrey lost two matches in the same season, while, with the exception of the Aus tralians, she inflicted one or more double defeats on every competitor with whom she played two matches. The following table gives the result of all matches :— Opponents. 05CO 05CO to0500 05<X) CO CO ‘6681 Wins.
