Cricket: d WStKLY RECORD 0E THE GAME. 168, UPPER THAMES STREET, L0BD0I, E.C. THURSDAY, MAY 3 r d , 1900. J ) a \ ) t l t o n # o 00 t p . The abstract and brief chronicle of the tim e.— Hanle'. A t the annual meeting of the Glouces tershire County Club last week the chair man, Mr. H. W. Beloe, expressed his sorrow that the county had fallen last year from third on the list to ninth. He referred to the valuable services rendered to the county by Mr. Troup as captain, and to the success of Paish as a bowler. The gate receipts were larger than ever before, while there was a steady increase in the number of subscribers. O p in io n s may vary as to the expedi ency of presentations, but presentations are the mot du jour, and if ever the system could be justified it would be in the most recent instance of its employ ment. Mr. Perrin was presented with a silver inkstand at the annual meeting of the county club on Wednesday last, as a recognition of his great success last year with the bat for his county. He played six innings of over a hundred, and made a total of 1,486 runs. L ord J ustice S ir A. L. S m ith , the retiring president of the M.C.C., who has been very ill, has now recovered suffici ently to be able to resume his duties. “ W hat would happen,” asks a corre spondent, “ if an overthrow occurred while the intended experiments made by the M.C.C. are being tried ? Suppose that a man has hit a ball into a corner and manages to run four (thereby making the hit a six); the fieldsman bangs the ball to the opposite boundary enabling the batsman to iun another four before the ball reaches the wicket-keeper—possibly beating him and going to the boundary again, for such things have happened before now. Does the batsman add two runs to his total each time ? If not, why n o t? ” S ubject to the approval of the Local Government Board the Green at Thames Ditton has been acquired by the Esher and Ditton Urban District Council by a payment of £250 to the Kingston Cor poration, the former owners. T he West Indian team is now as follows :—M. M. Kerr and W. P. Living stone (Jamaica), W. Mignon (Grenada), B. A. Oiivierre (St. Vincent), G. C. Lear- rnond, S. W. Sproston, and Burton (Demerara), W. Bowring, Hines, and P. A. Goodman (Barbados), R. S. A. Warner, L. S. D ’Ade, Constantine, and Woods (Trinidad).
