A pril 13, 1899. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 53 ru rg ettin g ; in fact, he made his last 47 runs out of a total of 51. With a balance of 84 against them the visitors settled down to play good cricket, and by the close o f the day had put up 221 runs for the loss of only five wickets. On the third day they increased this total to 330. Tyldejley was the mainstay of the side, although M itchell and Milligan played very valuable innings. The task set to South Africa, to make 247 runs, was heavy, but the remarkable collapse which took place was quite unexpected. Haigh took six wickets for 11, and Trott four for 19.
