Continued from page 46. 1895.—Lancashire v. Nottinghamshire, at Notting ham, June 17th and 18th. A . Mold obtained four Nottinghamshire wickets with consecu tive balls. Gentlemen of England v. I Zingari, at Lord’s, June 20th,'21st and 22nd. In the second innings of the former Messrs. W . G. Grace (101) and A. Sellars (70) obtained the 172runs required to win without the loss of a wicket. Sussex v. Oxford University, at Brighton, June 24th, 25th and 26th. Mr. G. L. W ilson (174) and F. W . Marlow (130) made 303 for the first wicket of Sussex. The University made 651, Mr. G. J. Mordaunt carrying ouff his bat for 264. Altogether 1,410 runs were scored in the match for the loss of 28 wickets. Surrey v. Middlesex, at the Oval, July 1st, 2nd and 3rd. For the latter Mr. A. E. Stoddart scored 75 and 67. In the first innings he was stumped and given out, but the bail was not dislodged. (His inniDgs was, of course, con tinued.) In the second innings a ball from F. E. Smith hit his wicket hard without removing a bail. Gentlemen v. Players, at the Oval, July 11th, 12th and 13th. F. W . Marlow made his first appearance for the Players, and scored 27 and 100 . Essex v. Somersetshire, at Taunton, July 11th, 12th and 13th. Essex scored 692, H. Carpenter making 153, Mr. C. McGahey 147. Mr. A. P. Lucas 135, and T. M. Russell 99. E. J. Tyler’s bowling suffered to the extent of 215 runs during the innings. Essex won by an innings and 317 runs. Lancashire v- Somersetshire, at Taunton, July 15th, 16th and 17th. Lancashire scored 801; Mr. A . C. MacLaren made 424, A . G. Paul (177) helping him add 363runs for the second wicket. Mr. MacLaren’s enormous score is the largest yet made in first-class matches. Lancashire won by an innings and 452 runs. E. J. Tyler’s bowling suffered to the extent of 212 runs during Lancashire’s long innings. (See also previous match.) Surrey v. Sussex, at the Oval, July 25th and 26th. In bowling Mr. W . L. Murdoch in the first innings of Sussex, T. Richardson sent a bail flying 55 yards 3 inches. Essex v. Hampshire, at Southampton, July 25th, 26th and 27th. For the first-named W . Mead obtained seventeen wickets in the match for 119 runs ; eight for 67 in the first innings and nine for 52 in the second. Somersetshire v. Surrey, at Taunton, August 22nd, 23rd and 24th. E. J. Tyler obtained all ten wickets in the first innings of Surrey at a cost of 49 runs. 1896.—Yorkshire v. Warwickshire, at 'Birmingham, May 7th, 8th and 9th. The Yorkshire innings amounted to 887, the highest total ever made in a first-class match. R. Peel scored 210 not out, Lord Hawke 166, E Wainwright 126, and Mr. F. S. Jackson 117. Ten of Warwickshire bowled during the innings, no less than 223 runs beiDg scored from S. Santall’s deliveries. Middlesex v. Yorkshire, at Lord’s, May 21st, 22nd and 23rd. J. T. Brown (203) and J. Tunnicliffe (62) made 1S9 for the first wicket in the first innings of Yorkshire, and 147 (neither out) in the second. Brown claiming 81 and Tunnicliffe 63. Yorkshire won by ten wickets. Sussex v. Gloucestershire, at Brighton, May 25th, 26th and 27th. In the second innings of Sussex K. S. Ranjitsinhji scored 114 not out, G. Bean (113), and F. W . Marlow 108. Yorkshire v.Kent,at Leeds, May 28th, 29th and 30th. Lord Hawke (110 not out) and D. Hunter (41) added 118 runs for Yorkshire’s last wicket. Sussex v. Somersetshire, at Brighton,May 28th, 29th and 30th. In the second innings of Sussex Mr. W . Newham scored 201 not out, Mr. W . L. Murdoch 144, and K. S. Ranjitsinhji 107, this being the second time within a week that Sussex had scored three individual centuries in an innings. E. J. Tyler had 166runs scored from his bowling in one innings without ob taining a wicket. M.C.C. and Ground v. Australians, at Lord’s, June 11th and 12th. In their first innings the Australians lost four wickets for 18 runs, and their innings closed for fhat amount, A. D. Pougher taking five wickets for no runs in fifteen balls. M.C.C. and Ground v. Warwickshire,at Lord’s, June 15th and 16th. A . A. Lilley, in the two innings of the former, caught 8 at the wicket. Nottinghamshire v. Derbyshire, at Derby, June 15th. 16th and 17th. W . Gunn (207 not out) and R. G. Hardstaffe (60) added 109 runs for the last wicket of the former. Australians v. Midland Counties, at Birming ham, June 18th, 19th and 20th. In his second innings G. H. S. Trott received a ball from J. Hulme which hit the leg-stump and knocked the bail out of the groove. The bail stuck fast between the two stumps and Trott con tinued his innings. Yorkshire v. Leicestershire, at Leicester, June 18th, 19th and 20th. Yorkshire scored 660, every member of the side scoring double figures. Yorkshire won by an innings and 302 runs. Derbyshire v. Yorkshire, at Derby, June 25th, 26th and 27th. For the former W . Storer scored 100 in his first innings and 100 not out in his second. Cambridge University v. M.C.C. and Ground, at Lord’s, June 25th, 26th and 27th. In the fourth innings o f the match Cambridge Uni versity were set 507 runs t o win. and these they unexpectedly and triumphantly obtained for the loss of seven wickets. M.C.C. and Ground v. Oxford University, at Lord’s, June 29th and 30th. On the first day the former made no leas than 583 runs for the loss of seven wickets. Oxford University v. Cambridge University, at Lord’s, July 2nd, 3rd and 4th. Mr. E. B. Shine sent down three balls—two of them no-balls —to the boundary for four each in order to prevent Oxford following on. Somersetshire v. Hampshire, at Southampton, July 9th, 10th and 11th. Mr. L. C.H . Palairet scored 292 for the former. The Australians v. Leicestershire, at Leicester, July 13th, 14th and 15th. J. Darling (194) took part in three different three-figure part nerships: G. Giffen (67) helping to add 145 for the second wicket, H. Donnan (66) 133 for the third, and S. E. Gregory (102) 145 for the fourth. Hampshire v. Yorkshire, at Southampton, July 16th, 17th and 18th. For the former Capt. E. G. Wynyard scored 268. Australians v. Derbyshire, at Derby, July 20th, 21st and 22nd. For theAustralians H. Donnan scored 167, G. H. S. Trott 141, and C. Hill 130, the total being 625. Derbyshire v. Essex, at Leyton, July 23rd, 24th and 25th. For the former Mr. H.G. Curgenven obtained a wicket with the first ball he ever delivered in a first-class county match. Gloucestershire v. Sussex, at Bristol, August 3rd, 4th and 5th. Mr. W . G. Grace scored 301. Derbyshire v. Lancashire, at Manchester, August 10th, 11th and 12th. For Derbyshire G. Davidson scored 274, W . Storer 116, and W.Chatterton 104, the two first-named adding 308 runs for the fourth wicket. Sussex v. Yorkshire, at Brighton, August 20th, 21st and 22nd. For Sussex K . S. Ranjitsinhji scored 100 and 125 not out, all the runs being made on vhe third day. Surrey v. Lancashire, at the Oval, August 20th, 21st and 22nd. A . Mold in the first innings of Surrey bowled G. A . Lohmann with a ball which sent a bail sixty-three yards six inches from the wicket. Australians v. Gloucestershire, at Cheltenham, August 20th, 2l8t and 22nd. The second inn ings of the county closed for a total of 17 runs. Victoria v. New bouth Wales, at Melbourne, December 26th, 28th, 29tb and 30th. At one time during this match the heat was so great that the bowlers were obliged to use sawdust, the heat preventing them holding the ball. 1897.—Victoria v. South Australia, at Melbourne, January 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th. J. O’Halloran (128 not out) and A. E. Johns ,57) added 186 runs for the tenth wicket of Victoria, this being O’Halloran’s first appearance in an inter-colonial match. In order to prevent South Australia following on, H. Trumble bowled no-balls until his own side was com pelled to go in again. New South Wales v. Victoria, at Sydney. Jan uary 23rd, 25th, 26th, 27th and 28th. M. A. Noble (153 not out) and W . Howell (48) added 111 runs for the last wicket of New South Wales. New South Wales v. Queensland, at Brisbane, April 16th, 17th and 19th. L. W . Pye made his first appearance for the former and scored 166. Nottinghamshire v. Sussex, at Nottingham, May 10th, 11th and 12th. Mr.J.A.Dixon made 268 not out for the former, his innings lasting part of all three days. Sussex v. M.C.C. and Ground, at Lord’s, May 13th, 14th and 16th. For Sussex K. S. Ran jitsinhji scored 260. Surrey v. Warwickshire, at the Oval, May 13th, 14th and 15th, Surrey scored 60f?, R. Abe making 250.
