Played on the Germantown ground on October 7, 9 and 10. Ranj itsinhj i’s team won by an innings and 131 runs. Rain fell so heavily on October 6, which was the day arranged for the beginning of the match, that no play could take place until the next morning, when on a wicket which, although it had been covered with tarpaulin, was soft, the Englishmen made a splendid score. At the last moment, as the day was very fine and warm, Ranjitsinhji decided to play, but although he did what he liked with the bowling, it was obvious that he had not sufficiently recovered from his severe cold to be able to do himself justice. Stoddart played a great innings, and MacLaren was in splendid form ; indeed most of the team were seen to advantage, with the exception of Wood. The Americans, unused to slow wickets, could do nothing with thebowling. Bosanquet finished off the innings in a summary manner. In the follow-on, King was seen at his very best, and his stay of more than an hour at the wicket was productive of excellent cricket. The fielding of the Englishmen was exceed ingly bad. K. S.
