First day’s play at Bombay, August 11. Despite the most unpromising weather, a vast crowd was present at the beginning of the match. Unfortunately, the wicket, which was already soft, received so much more rain on it before the day’s play ended, that the chances of the Parsees of coming out of the match with credit were very small indeed. They lost the toss and, handicapped during part of the day by the showers, they could only get rid of eight of their opponents before stumps were drawn. Captain Greig played a remarkable innings which lasted for five hours; during the latter part of it he played an aggressive game. His innings was brought to a conclusion by a brilliant catch at cover-point. Until he was j ined by Captain Tomkins the Presi dency had not distinguished themselves in the least, and as Tomkins began very weakly it looked as if the Parsees would get rid of the side for about a hundred. But as soon as Tomkins settled down he played an admirable game, bringing off the pull with great success. Later in the day Capt in Usbome made tome vigorous hits, which although not particularly orthodox, were very effective. Kanga kept wicket remarkably well, but somewhat spoiled the effect by appealing much too frequently. B om bay P r e sid e n c y . Capt. Douglas, lbw, b Driver ................. 3 Capt.
