THE CALTHORPE CRICKET CLUB. The twenty-third annual dinner of this old- established club took place on Saturday, February 4th, at the Holborn Res'aurant, and was a pronounced success. For the first time in the club’s history the fair sex were included, with the result that a party of nearly fifty were ably presided over by Mr. S. A. W Rogers, a well-known and highly-esteemed patron of the cluh. After the usual repast the com pany gave themselves up to song, and amongst others, the following artislsrendered a good account cl themselves :—Messrs. F. Edgerton (captai > d the club), H. J. Hope, H. B. Nisbet, H. E. Kadcliff. r ari 7<?aU’ E> Cot,on* Harold Worth, and the Court l ards Coocert Comp iny, consisting of Messrs. Nott- B anes (King of Liu>>). Charles Ashley (King of l)iamond8), and the Mis.-es Elsa Hope (Quetn of frpades), and Madison Williams (Queen of Hearts). Amongst the ladies Mrs. H. J. Hope and Miss a ! ■Hughes stood out conspicuously for their vccalism, and Miss Kir g was first-class at the piano. The toast of “ The Club,” proposed by the chair- a f a .ja s ably given and enthusiastical y drunk, and Mr. N G. H ill’s (hon. sec.) reply was decidedly interesting. From it we gather the club is still in a nouiishing condition, and hopes are entertained ihat S o T l remam 80 for many years. The past season naa been ^ery successful, the amount of wins to losses Dej?ripg very favourable comparison. -Reference was made to the unavoidable absence oi several prominent members, and especial sympathy expressed for the compulsory absence ( f the late I3E2?!!' Undoubtedly, Low- speech of the evening was “ The Chairman.” euiog^tically given by Mr. H. F. Eadcliff. In a few Min! *?sen„ words M r- Kadcliff spoke of the long lon ,r‘ Ko(3gers had had with the club, how *v j a' tory that connection had been, and expressed p V M r- RoBers might always see his wav iW iL . “ ?no? r tlle dub by presiding orer these rpT.1. f ^ suitable and praiseworthy e the chairman was followed by “ Auld S ©yne, and the company dispersed, thoroughly satisfied with the efforts of the committee in provid ing them with such a pleasant evening.
