CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 307 THE BRIXTON WANDERERS’ WEEK. 8ix matches were played with the following result, viz., the first against Mitcham was won by 88 runs— the scores being 146 and 48 f^r six against 234. The second against Hampton W ick, the Brixton W an­ derers were also successful by 73 runs, scoring 233 agaiost their opponents’ 160. The third, versus Lovell’s X I., resulted in a draw, the first-named knocking up 302 runs, andthe B.W .’s replying with 228 for three wickets, Faulkner not out 100. The fourth against Surrey Club and Ground w*s drawn much in favour of that team, as after dismissing the Wan­ derers for 23* they made 225 for two wickets, Holland bein* not out for 145. For the home team C. G. Smith was not out 115. 'Ihe fifth match, with Fair­ field, was also won by 63 runs—the B.W .’s batting first, scoring 178, whilst their opponents compi ed 115. They followed on and made 106 for no wicket. The sixth match, against Norbury, prove 1 to be a victory by eight wickets, as that cluo were all out for 131— this number being attained for the loss of two wickets, and the innings eventually amounting to 326. Two iniiings of 100 and over were scored, namely, Faulkoer 100 and C. G. Smith 115. in both cases the batsmen being not out, and the latter for six innings had an average of 49*75; Stubbs, 32*4 for five; F. V . Rider (the captain), 29*75 for the t-ame number of innings; H. Mason, 26*4 for a like num ber; Simmons, 2i*33 for six; Gilligan, 17*66 for four; and F. Odell. 6'83 for six. In bowling, C. G. Smith, seven for 103; Stubbs, fifteen for 248; Simmons, eight for 147 ; and Rider, eight for 188. The weather was all that could be desired—an al fresco fete on Thursday evening passed off m< st pleasantly. The wickets, prepared by the groundman, Farmer, were highly praised by all the teams, and the whole week was of the most suc­ cessful description, not the slightest hitch occurring throughout in any particular.
