Played at Worcester on July 24, 25 and 26. Worcestershire won by 122 runs. As the wi *ket had not recovered from the heavy rains of last week, Mr. De Trafford, who won the toss, put Worcestershire in. It cannot be paid that the policy met with great success, for the Worcestershire batsmen played a determined game, and made a satisfactory score. Mr. R. E. Foster played a par icularly good innings. Leicestershire bepran badly, and although Mr. Joyce and Mr. W ood brought about a considerable improvement, the home team bad much the best of matters when play ended for the day, Leicestershire being 123 runs behind, with only four wickets in hand. These four wickets did not produce many runs on Tuesday morning- and Worcestershire began their second innings with the very useful lead of 80 runs. Good batting by Mr. W . L. Foster, Fereday and Mr. H. K Foster soon considerably increased this, and as Wheldon p'ayed a good not out innings, Leicest rshire had a very severe task set them in the second innings. They made a fine attempt to play out time. W OBCESTEB8HIBE. First inning’s. Second innings. W . When Mr. Evershed, who was captaining the Derbyshire team, won the toss, he decided give Essex the opportunity of seeing what the •wicket was like. The result was somewhat surprising, for, after Essex had lost a wicket for a few runs, Perrin and Ayres made a good stand, and the batting improved hour by hour until at the end of the day the score was 317 for the loss of only four wickets. Perrin played a remarkable innings of the defensive kind, o ca- sionally making pretty hits, but never making mistakes. Towards the end of the day, after McGahey and W. M. Turner had played very good cricket indeed, he was joined by A . P. Lucas, and the bowling was completely collared. On Tuesday Perrin, who overnight had made 148, continued to play, fine cricket, and was within four of the longed- for second hundred wLen he was out, after batting for six hours and three-quarters. Lucas played a very fine innings. Storer made an unexpected stir among the tail, and the innings came to a somewhat abrupt conclusion. As Essex were without Young and Mead, not to mention Kortright, their bowling was weak in the extreme, and Derbyshire, who had nothing to plav for except a draw, began to take advantage of this. They did well enough until yesterday morning, thanks to the splendid cricket shown by Mr. L. G. W right and Storer, but the tail could make nothing cf Mr. Bull, who, in a ftw overs, took five wickets at an e*c»ediogly small cost. He might, perhaps, have distinguished himself in the second innings, for Derbyshire had to follow on, but rain came down before the batsmen could go in, and play had to be given up. E ssex . G. Yorkshire won by an innings and 30 runs. Owing to rain, play only lasted for three hours and a-half on Monday, during which time Kent lost seven wickets for 147. Burnup, Knowles and Mason batted well The three other wickets only added two runs to this score. Yorkshire soon lost Tunnicliffe; but Jackson and Denton, who are both in great form just at present, put on 93 runs in an hour and a-quarter for the second wicket, and Yorkshire began to forge ahead very rapidly. Mitchell was in fine form, and Haigh played a remarkably good innings. Kent be$an well, and Burnup and Alec Hearne distin guished themselves, but afterwards Mason was the only man who could do anything against Rhodes and Wainwright, K e n t . First innings.
