Cricket 1899

J uly 20, 1899. C R IC K E T ; A W E E K L Y R E C O R D O F T H E G A M E . 289 GLOUCESTERSHIRE v. KENT. Played at Bristol on July 17, 18 and 19. Drawn. There was nothing remarkable about the Gloucester shire innings on Monday except the fine batting of Champain and the very useful stand made by Board and W . S. A. Brown. Kent, who had to do without W . M. Bradley, who was playing at Old Trafford, also lost the services of Walter W right in the course of the Gloucestershire innings, owing to a sprained ankle. Nevertheless, at the close of the day the visitors were in a fairly good position, having made 53 runs for the loss of a couple of wickets. They went ahead very considerably on Tuesday morning, Burnup being in particularly fine form. He received a great deal of assistance from Huish, who, having gone in overnight to play out time, displayed unex pected skill with the bat when the game was resum°d. Later R. O’ H. Livesay and Weigall helped Burnup to considerably increase the total. Burnup played his best innings of the year. Gloucestershire in their second innings had nothing to do but try to make a draw. W rathall was in splendid form, and Town send once more played an invaluable innings. G lou cestersh ire . First innings. C.O.H.Sewell,c sub,bMason 13 W rathall, b Martin ...........33 C. L.
