Cricket 1899
J une 15, 1899. CRtCKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 199 THE TONBRIDGE WEEK. KENT y. SOMERSET. Played at Tonbridge on June 8,9 , and 10. Kent won by 4l runs. Although they buffered a severe disappointment in being defeated by Sussex on the first three days of the Tonbridge Week, Kent finished up the festival in triumph, notwithstanding that the Somerset men did so well in the first innings as to make a drawn game seem a ceitaiuty. The Kent batting was very good all round, Alee Hearne, B. D. Ban cn. Huish, C. J. Burnup, and J. R. Mason particularly dis tinguishing themselves, while W . M. Bradley and J. R. Mason were in great form with the ball. On the Someiset side C. A. Bernard made a most promis ing dibat , scoriLg 79 and 68 by very taking cricket, and Mr. W oods made 111 and 37, his former innings being put together by excellent cricket in two hours ; while he was in with Bernard 167 was put on for the fourth wicket in the same time. Hobson and Mr. Stanley also played fine cricket, and, on the whole, the team did so well that letter things may be in prospect for it. On Fiiday night there was a fair chance that Somerset would win, for Kent, with five wickets down in their second innings, were only 170 runs on. K e n t . First innings. Fecond innings.
