Cricket 1899

196 CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J une 15, 1899. delivered by Davidson a piece broke off his bat and removed a bail. Wells, of Sussex, was out in a somewhat similar manner when playing at Brighton against Surrey in 1860. In playing a ball from Caffyn he broke the handle of his bat, and the pod flew over his shoulder, disturbing the bails. During the match between Brixton and Honor Oak on May 26, 1888, \V. E. Death, of the former club, cut a ball bowled by W . Murdon to the boundary ; in doing so, however, a portion of his bat was broken off and dislodged the bails. A similar misfortune befell Mr. Jephson when playing for Surrey v. Middle sex, at the Oval, five years ago, the bowler in this case being Rawlin.
