Burton, G\ for 59 runs, Middlesex v. Surrey, at the Oval, July 19, 20, 21, 1888. S.M .J.W oods, for 69 runs, Cambridge University v. C. I. Thornton’s X I., at Cambridge, May 12, 13, 1890. Richardson, T., for 45 runs, Surrey v. Essex, at the Oval, June 18, 19, 20,1894. Pickett, H ., for 32 runs, Essex v. Leicestershire, at Leyton, June 3, 4, 5, 1895. Tyler, E. J., for 49 runs, Somersetshire v. Surrey, at Taunton, August 22, 23. 24, 1895. W . P. Howell, for 28runs. Tenth Australian Team v. Surrey, at the Oval, May 15, 16,17,1S99. In the twelve-a-side match at Canter bury, on August 13th, 14th, 15th, 1862, between the M.C.C. and Gentlemen of Kent, E. M. Grace obtained all the ten wickets of the latter, which fell in the second innings; one man was absent. On June 16ih, 17tb, 1864, V. E. Walker took all the ten wickets for 37 runs of the Gentlemen of Kent, when playing for the Gentlemen of Middlesex, at Maidstone. At Eastwood Hall, on September 15th, 16th, 17th, 1870, Shaw, J. C., for Sixteen of Nottinghamshire v. England, captured all the ten wickets of the latter in the first innings for 20 runs. Mr. Frank Mitchell’s score of 100 for Yorkshire against Gloucestershire, on Tuesday last, is the highest he has yet made for his county. Many good judges have, and with reason, declared him to be one of the best batsmen in England. His innings last season in minor matches were very large, and his huge scores in matches at Cambridge in 1894 will be fresh in the memory of all those who follow the game at all closely. He is a very pretty batsman to watch, and, when set, hits with great brilliancy. The bowl ing of Mr. F. W. Stocks, on Monday last, met with moie success than on any previous occasion. Playing for Oxford University against Mr. A. J. Webbe’s eleven, at Oxford, he obtained eight wickets in the first innings of the latter at a cost of but 22 runs—a performance of which old William Lillywhite himself might have been proud. To Leic(Sler- shire enthusiasts his success wilL be particularly welcome. PANTHER v. G RAV ESEN D—Played at Graves end on May 6. P a n th e r . A .
