THURSDAY, MAY 11th , 1899. ^atulton ©osatp. The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— Hamlet A t fcit. Paul’s Church, Kisherton, Salis­ bury, the marriage took place last week of Mr. A. W . Browne, the Athletics editor of the Field, to Miss Gertrude Thwaites, third daughter of the Rev. E. N . Thwaites, the Rector of the parish. Mr. Browne was formerly the editor of Pastime and the Cricket Field. I t is curious that on the second day of the match between Sussex and M .C.C. at Lord’ s, when runs were difficult to get, no fewer than four men were out l.b.w .— three of them on the Sussex side. There were also four men l.b.w . in the Crystal Palace v. Wiltshire match, including W. G., and in the South of England match against the Australians there were again four—Ranjitsinhji, H ill, Gregory, and Brockwell. Can it be that the stroke to leg is beginning to tell its tale ? I f a diligent student were to carefully search through the records of cricket he would find here and there among the voluminous writings the remarks that cricket is a curious gam e; and that a game is never lost until it is won. Indeed, ordinary readers of cricket reports may have once or twice in their lives
