SECOND MATCH OF THE TOUR. Played at Newlands, Cape Town, on Dec. 31, Jan. 2 and 3. Lord Hawke’s team won by 106 runs. The visitors went in first. M itchell’s innings of 31 included three fine hits for six. The beginning of the innings was a good deal more promising than the end, and at lunch the score was 84 for tw o wickets, Warner still being in. Western Province lost 8 wickets for 64 before stumps were drawn, and on the follow ing Monday brought their total to 104, Horwood, with 45, being the top scorer. Warner again played well in the second innings of Lord Hawke’s team, and though most of the men failed, H aigh played a determined innings. With 232 to make, the home team lost 2 wickets for 20, and on the Tuesday were all disposed of for 125, of which Reid claimed 49 by very steady play. The fielding of the home team was decidedly good. The viiitors went in first, and made 200 Mitchell 45, Warner 14, Tyldesley 10,Lord Hawke 7, Cuttell 10, Milligan 31. Brom ley-Davenport 8, Board 3, Trott 40, A icher 16, Haigh 14; extras 2.— Total 200. The Twenty-two could only make 99 and 153, Trott taking 20 wickets for 66 runs. In making the runs required to win, Lord Hawke scored 3, Cuttell 3, T jldesley 43 not out, and Warner 7.— Total 56. THE PORT ELIZABETH MATCH (XV). FOURTH MATCH OF THE TOUR. Played at Port Elizabeth on Jan. 10,11 and 12. Lord Hawke’s team won by 100 runs. Again winning the toss, the English­ men went in first, and put up 166:— Warner 22, Mitchell 4, Tyldesley 25, Wilson 10, Cuttell 5, Haigh 34, Trott 35, Milligan 13, Davenport 0, Lord Hawke, not out, 4, Archer 3 ; extras 11.—Total 166. The home team scored 173 (Gleedon 49 and Bower 27). Trott took 5 wickets for 77, and Cuttell 4 for 26. In their second innings the visitors made 187:— Mitchell 1, Warner 2, Tyldesley 31, Wilson 5, Cuttell 1, Haigh 7, M illigan 10, Bromley-Davenport 0, Trott 84, Lord Hawke 13, Archer, not out, 3 ; extras30. —Total 187. Trott alone saved the team from collapse. The heme team had to make 181, and found the bow ling of Trott and Haigh altogether too good for them. THE CAPE COLON Yf MATCH. FIFTH OF THE TOUR. Played at Port Elizabeth on Jan. 14,16andl7- Lord Hawke’s team won by 101 runs Until Cuttell came in none of the Englishmen, who again went in first, offered any resistance to the bowling, and the total was sm all:—Warner 0, Mitchell 4, Tyldesley 11, W ilson 6, Cuttell 53, Haigh 15, Trott 5, Milligan 11, Lord Hawke 3, Brom ley-Davenport 3, Board, not out, 8 ; extras 15.—Total 134. Cape Colony made 112 (Giddy 26), Haigh taking 4 wickets for 30, Trott 3 for 47, and Cuttell 3 for 22. In the second innings of the visitors, M itchell hit splendidly, and Wilson, M illigan, and L ord Hawke played well. The scores w ere:—Warner 0, Mitchell 81, Tyldesley 11, Wilson 32, Cuttell 12, H aigh 11, Trott 3, Milligan 34, Lord Hawke, not out, 26, Brom ley-Davenport 0, Board 0 ; extras 18.—Total 228. The home team could not do much with the bow ling of Trott, Haigh, Cuttell, and Milligan, and were all out for 149. THE EASTERN PROVINCE MATCH (XV.) SIXTH MATCH OF THE TOUR. Played at Grahamstown on Jan 20 andr:21. The home team, af.er making a gocd beginning, collapsed against the bow ling of Trott (9 for 19) and Cuttell (4 for 15), and were all out for 88, of which Devey made 30. A t close of play the visitors had put on 109 for the loss of 6 wickets. Thanks chiefly to Trott and Tyldesley, the total of the visitors nearly doubled that of their opponents, the scores b e in g : Warner 9, Brom ley-Davenport 6, Wilson 13,Cuttell 3, Tyldesley 38, Haigh 0, Mitchell 22, Trott 69, Milligan 18, Board 15, Lord Hawke, not out, 2 ; extras 16. —Total 211.
