Played at Bombay onSeptember 5 and 6. Kathiawar wonby nine wickets. When Ranjitisinhji went in he began carefully, and soon got the measure of the bowling. He brought off several of his famous leg strokes, but when his score was at 10 he put one up to point, which the fieldsman misjudged. After this let off, Ranjitsinbji played amagnifi cent game until he had made 50, whenhe again had a narrow escape, this time playing one back to Baker, who only just missed securing it. Shortly afterwards McCausland was dismissed for 25, got without any actual chance. His stand with Ranjitsinhji was invaluable, and he played a better game than we have ever seen himplay with the Kathiawar team. Ranjitsinhji continued toplay finecricket and seemed to bealmost certain of reach ing his century. None of the other players gave him any support, most of them failing to score. With the total at 191, and his score 78, Ranjitsinhji in attempting to drive Jehangier put the ball up into Vines’ safe hands. On the whole, Lis performance was an excellent exhibition of sound ciicket despite the two chances mentioned befoie, and all who turned out to see the famous Indian batter must have been pleased at his success. His leg glances in particular fairly tookthe large number of spectators by storm, while his off hits were beauti fully timed and all along the carpet. He batted under the double disadvantage of being lame and somewhat knocked up by the sun, which very probably accounted for his failii g to reach three figures.— Bombay Gazette.
