Cricket 1898
A ug . 18, 1898. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OP THE GAME. 355 S ome of m y correspondents who are of a mathematical turn of mind have discovered that the totals of W . G. Quaife’s successive not out scores as given in G ostip last week did not amount to 471 as stated, but only to 354 I find that my c ^respondents are quite right, and that Quaife’s score of 117, not out, had been accidentally dropped. The scores should have read as follows : 60 not out, 117 not out, 157 not out and 24 not out, 52 not out and 61 not out.—Total, 471. A lth o u g h Yorkshire seems to be marked out as the champion county of 1898, there is still a possibility that Surrey may come in first. Two more matches have yet to be played by York shire—against Derbyshire at Chesterfield, and Sussex at Brighton, and it is by no means certain that these will end in victories Surrey, on the other hand, has to play Lancashire at the Oval, Gloucestershire at Clifton, Somerset at Taunton, and Warwickshire at the Oval— by no means a light programme. The name of Mr. J. C. Tabor, who scored 100 not out and 107 not out for Litim er against Mr. J. B. Leigh’s X I. on August 3 and 4, is now to be added to the list of scorers of a hundred in each innings of a minor match.
