CR ICKET IN SOUTH A FR ICA ; THE CUREIE CUP.—PENULTIMATE POUND. Natal v. Western Province. Played at Johannesburg on March 20, 22, and 23. Western Province won by 137 runs. After their match with Griqualand some big scoring was expectod from the Western Province, but their batsmen, owing to the rain, were content with small scores. To the great delight of the crowd, who were not satisfied with the inclusion of Lohmann in the Western Province team, the famous Surrey player was caught and bowled off the second ball of the match. This bad start seemed to greatly discourage the chief batsmen of the team, and it was left to the tail to make nearly all the runs. Five wickets were down for 60, but thanks to Bissett, Challinor, and Anderson, a satisfactory total was made before the last wicket fell. Natal could not do much against the ex cellent bowling of Rowe and Lohmann, who were unchanged. In their second innings, most of the Western Province batsmen scored double figures, and the result was that Natal had the very diffi cult task of making 266 runs, a task which proved altogether too much for them. It is probable that a much better fight would have been made if anyone could have been found to stop with Hime, who played a valuable innings of 40. Lohmann was very successful with the ball, and was well backed up by Rowe, who seems to be the coming bowler of South Africa, though, perhaps, Llewellyn may run him close eventually.
