THE FIRST ALL TRINIDAD MATCH. (Tenth of the Tour.) Played at Port of Spain on February 19,20 and 22. All Trinidad won by ten wickets. It was unfortunate that S. M. J. Woods was practically an absentee from this match. It is true that he bowled a few overs, but was obliged to retire. Stod dart plaved but was not well. Never theless, the doings of the Trinidad men were so good that it is to be g re a t! y doubted whether thev would not have won in any case. Thev went in first, and thanks to excellent all-round batting made 174, the two chief scorers being Constantine and Smith. Tbis was not a score likely to cause terror in the hearts of a strong batting team, and it was the general expectation that the visitors would at least come very near to the total. But Cumberbatch. who had earned great fame against Lord Hawke’s team, carried everything before him. One after another of the visitors failed to play him, and the innings closed for 33. Cumber batch took frvc wickete'-for 1 H. It may be remembered that one end of the pitch was hard and bumpy ; the other end was wet and soft. In the follow on the Englishmen did better, but by no means well enough to ever have a hope of pulling the match out of the fire. A ll T b L. Constantine, c Bar ratt.. b Stanley -. 46 L. With Woods available and Stoddart himself again, it was hoped that the visi tors would avenge the defeat in the first match, but, thanks to a beautiful innings of 140 not out by L. S. D’Ade. and » stand of 103 for the last wicket. Trinidad nut another victory to their credit. Ade’s innings was the first of a hundred which has been made in a good match at Trini dad. For the second time the home team won the toss. Thev lost five wickets for 71, but the batting of D’Ade and the stand made by him and Rudder for the last wicket completely altered the state of affairs, and what looked like being a very small total turned out to be 284. Once more t^e Englishmen had to follow on. R. C. N. Palairet plaved extremely well for 65, but the rest of the team did not back him up very well. In the follow on, Palairet again did well, and Woods, Rush, and Williams made useful scores. Trini dad easily knocked off the runs. A ll T rinidad . W.
