The United States won the toss. The Canadian bowling and fielding was good. Hill, a student at McGill College, Mon treal, who was playing in his first international match had a good analysis. For Canada, M. Boyd, an old Cheltonian, played well, without giving a chance. Laing, who had played an innings of 197 a week previous in a local match, failed to score, but bowled well. W. H. Cooper, as last year, played well and brought his total up to 1,000. Jordan, who is only nineteen, kept wicket for the United States splendidly; he would be first-class with a little more experience. D. W. Saunders, the only member of the 1887 English team playing, captained the team, and hit off the required runs well. It is a pity that the Unitf d States could not send some of their men who went to England, as the match proved a rather onr-sided affair. How ever, Noble, Clark, and It. D. Brown would have had their places in the team which went to England if they could have got away. The Canadian side would have been strengthened by the inclusion of Wadsworth, a bowler with a curve; he was chosen but could not play. Otherwise the team was representative.
