DERBYSHIRE. AN EXCITING FINISH. Played at Liverpool on June 3, 4 and 5. Lancashire won by one wicket. Rain considerably interferedwith this match which after running a somewhat uninteresting course suddenly became very exciting. Lancashire after a disastrousfirst innings pulled up considerably in the Becondwhen theyhadtomake184towin. Fortunately forthemthewicketwasbetter thanatanyotherperiod during the match, and as nearly every man made double figures they were always gettingalittle nearer to their goal. Amid great excitement, however, the runs werehitoff, Cuttell carrying his bat for a well played 17. Derbyshire seemed tohave the best of it several times during the innings, but their finest chance was when six wickets had fallen with 35 runs still to be obtained. The only Derbyshire batsmen who played an innings at all out.of the commonwere Walter Sugg, who made the highest score in the matchoneitherside— 48—and Chatterton. Lancashire batsmen were also not seen atr their best, and the o Tyldesley, b Cuttell........ b Briggs ........ c Paul, b Mold... b Hallam ... i ... b Briggs ........ b Mold.............. cCuttell,bHallam not out .......
