Cricket 1897

M ay 20, 169?. CRICKET : A WEEKLY RECOftD OF THE g a m e . 155 Glenelg team was a strong one, and had scored 60 for no wickets when W. Hewer, of the Norwood Club, who was playing for Bankville, was put on to bowl. He proved irresistible ; so much so, that he got all the ten wickets for 14 runs. G. H . Rowe, who made such a promis ing first appearance in Oxford University cricket in the Freshmen’s match last week, was the captain of the Winchester Cjllege eleven last year. Though he had an average of 87, he was only third of the batsmen, with A. L. Gibson, who was tried for Leicestershire at the end of last season, and E . A. Williams both above him. Eowe, who hails from Guildford, would have played for the Sixteen against the First Eleven of Surrey in the opening match at the Oval this year had he not beea in residence at Oxford.
