C r icke t : A WEEKLY RECORD OF TEE GAME, 168, UPPER THAMES STREET, LONDON, E.C. THUR SDAY , MA.Y 13th, 1897. JtoMton Gossip. The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— Hamlet. I n the Cambridge Eleven which op posed Mr. Thornton’s X I. on Monday there were six Blues. The new men were J. H . Stogdon, E A. Kidman, H . H . B. Hawkins, H . W. de Zoete, and A. E. Fernie— all seniors, except Femie. U n d o u b te d ly the two most promising of the seniors are Stogdon and Hawkins. Stogdon will he remembered as having in the Eton match in 1895 saved his side from defeat by batting which, for a boy, was remarkably confident and powerfnl. Last year he almost gained his blu9, and there were many good judges of the game who thought that it would have been wise to play him at Lord’s.
