Cricket 1896

434 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. S ept . 17, 1896. in the operations out there, Major Ridley, iu Lis time also made his mark on the cricket field. The following announcement from yesterday’s Daily Mail will interest Cricket readers :— “ A marriage has been arranged between the Rev. H. C. Lenox Tindall and Muriel Caroline, eldest daughter of Mr. Philip Oxenden Papillon, of Crowhurst Park, Battle, and Lexden Manor, Essex.” Papillon and Tindall have been conspicuous names in Sussex cricket, more particularly in connection with the South Saxons’ Club at St. Leonards, of late years. I t is interesting to know that bad as has been the weather in England, it has been worse in Bombay, where the cricket grounds have been quite flooded. It was even proposed to call out the Fire Brigade to pump the pools of water off the Gymkhana ground, in order that the first trial match of the Parsees might be played. A ccordin g to the latest news from India it was feared that the matches between Poona and Bombay and the Presidency match, the two chief matches of the Bombay season, would have to be abandoned altogether.
