THURSDAY, JULY 3 0 t h , 1896. $ a \ r i l t o n The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— Hamlet. In a letter to the Adelaide Observer an Englishman writes:— “ I have never seen Lyons play, but I have had the honour of riding in the same train with the great hitter.” This is charming. The death is announced of Mr. O. G. Allee, a well-known Victorian cricketer, who played in inter-colonial matches from 1 8 7 3 to 1 8 7 8 . He was almost equally good in batting, bowling and fielding. During a visit to England in 1 8 7 9 he played for the City Ramblers, who presented him with a white hat for taking three wickets with successive balls. H. F . B o y l e , the famous Australian bowler, intends to live in Tasmania if sufficient inducement is offered. He is still a very useful man to have in a cricket team.
