THUKSDAY, JU LY 18 th , 1896. $a\ulton The abstract and brief chronicle of the time.— Samlet . T h e Harrow boys get plenty of prac tice at lobs, but against Eton they seemed quite at sea with them. It is true that Mitchell is much above the average of a school lob bowler, and that he possesses the “ cheek ” without which a lob bowler is generally useless; at the same time, the batsmen who were presumably the best on the Harrow side, allowed him to bowl any kind of ball he liked with im punity. Short pitches were played back with the most tender care ; full pitches were treated with the greatest considera tion ; and half volleys (which might easily have been made into full pitches) were played forward in a very pretty style, which must have delighted the heart of the Eton bowler, who can seldom have had the pleasure cf getting such a mas tery over batsmen.
