Cricket 1896
286 CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J uly 16, 1896 WARWICKSHIRE v. GLOUCESTER SHIRE. Played at Bristol on June 9, 10 and 11. Warwickshire won by 6 wickets. Although W .G . ecored as many runs in this match as would satisfy a great number of lirst-class cricketers, hi-j total was very much smaller than usual, and as he did not meet with any success in bowling either, his county had to put up with defeat, despite a vigorous and excellent innings of 124 by Board when the game was in a hopeless position. Mr. Townsend played good cricket in both innings, and seems to have got some of his bowling back again. The usual order of the Warwickshire team in batting was altered with success, for after the first few men were out for a small total Mr. Bainbridge and Diver played splendidly together; indeed, to their efforts in both innings, and to the bowling of Santall, the victory of their county was chiefly due.
