Cricket 1896

J u n e 18, 1896. CRICKET: A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 229 CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY v. M.C.O. AND GROUND. Played at Cambridge on June 15, 16 and 17. Drawn. W ith the wicket in good order at the University ground the moderate M.C.C. bowling was very soon collared. W . G. Grace, Jun., went for 0 but after his dismissal all the team who batted on the first day made large scores. Burnup was in great form, and for a second.time this season only just missed his hundred. Marriott, Druce, W ilson, Hemingway, and Mitchell all played splendid cricket, and when stumps were drawn the total was 315 for six wickets. On Tuesday Jessop made 21, but the tail failed and the innings realised 413. Dr. Grace was at once out to Jessop, who has, perhaps, profited by his experience in assisting Gloucestershire to discover the Champion’s weak poiut, whatever that may be. After this, a very long stand was made by Tro41, who seems to have played himself into form, and K. S. Ranjitsinhji, who made another hundred. Hornsby also did well, but six wickets were down for 259. This was in creased by about another hundred on Wednesday. Burnup played a second great innings for Cambridge, and Hemingway also did so well, that the innings was closed. There was no time to finish the match. ERSITY.
