NINETEENTH MATCH v. AUSTRALIA. F o u r t h D a y .— T u esday , M akch 5. Each side had completed one innings, which left the Australians with a lead of 29 runs and they going in the second time had 69 runs up for the loss of only one wicket. The atten^ dance was again fine, although the fact that a big race was being run at B'lemington kept thousands away. For the first two hours the weather was extremely unpleasant. A terriffic gale of wind blewupclouds ofdust—an experience novel enough even for Australians, to say nothing of Englishmen. The bat»men, who complained that the dust made the light very bad, will be sympathised with ; but the wind was so violent as to also handicap the bowlers at first; although when it chopped round and blew right across the pitch it made Richardson's fast bowling very deceptive. The Englishmen were handicapped in the field by the return of an old attack of stringhalt to Briggs, who had to field at point, while Jack Brown took the Lancas trian’s place at cover. H. Trott (37) and Giffen (14) continued the batting, Lockwood bowling with the wind, and Peel against it. Trott only made 5more, including a cut for 4 off Lockwood, when he. hit over a straight ball from Peel, and had his leg stump upset. 3—42—75. Iredale joined Giffen, who cut Lockwood square for 4, and after Iredale had played amaiden from Peel, Giffen drove Lockwood to the off for 4. Iredale fluked 3 off Peel for a start. At tho end of half an hour’s pla y only 19 runs had been added. Both batsmen continued to be, extremely cautious, and runs only came at rare intervals. With the 100up, Peel changed ends, and Richardson went on to take advan tage of the cross wind, now that the direction of the wind had veered round. Giffen at once cut Peel for 4, but it was chiefly by minor hits that the score was raised to 127. At this stage Iredale, who had never been quite com
